Okay you guys. I'm letting you in on a BIG secret I discovered way back at the beginning of my cake decorating journey. It's a cake mix hack that will make your cakes UH-MAZING.
Now, you might be thinking, "Boxed cake mix?! How could you?!" I know, I am the owner of a cake-decorating business; I will boil the coffee and throw the cocoa powder around all day to make scratch cake, but I'm also a mom and sometimes, I need the simplicity of this wonderful, time-saving hack, so I figured you might like it too!
This hack is cheap, fast and tastes just as good as scratch cake (In my humble opinion.) I've even put it to the test with my customers and no one can tell the difference . . . Also, it doesn't sink!
So, I introduce you to the Semi-Homemade Cake Hack!
A boxed cake mix. This works especially well with white cake, but I've tested it on other flavors and it works nice too. (Chocolate cake is a little different: Click here for the chocolate version of this hack.)
1 C Water
1 C Sour Cream. This is a MUST. Do not try to substitute this ingredient.
1/3 C Oil
I C Sugar
1 C Flour
Dump water, sour cream, oil, and eggs into a large bowl and mix together.
Add sugar, flour, and boxed cake mix then whip until smooth and incorporated.
Prep your cake pan. Click here for the tutorial on how to prep your pan for easy cake removal.
Bake at 350 for 14-30 min. 14 for cupcakes, 30 for a single round pan.
Remove from the oven when the center of the cake is firm.
Let cool before freezing or refrigerating.
Top with cream cheese frosting (like this yummy recipe that I use on all my cakes!)

Enjoy your delicious cake!
